“If you are not learning while earning, you’re cheating yourself of the most important part of your compensation” I saw this line about 2 decades ago even before I fully got into work life.
Most people focus only on monetary compensation as reward for work. It’s more than that friend. Many others also believe that if they are not yet working in a multinational company, there’s nothing to learn, so they end up wasting 5, 10 or more years of their working life, with no capability built.

Dear, whatever you’re doing today, be it volunteering, internship, working for an individual or small organization, put your mind to it. Learn cumulatively! What you’ve learnt today a few years forward may turn out to be your cash cow. That’s my experience. Happy to share from yours!

Don’t despair. I am not talking about the other MMM, I am referring to Monday Morning Meeting. It is great to start your day and week with a plan of action. Usually this comes through from a very productive meeting.

#DaveBarry said “If you had to identify in one word the reason why the human race has not achieved and will never achieve its full potential, that word will be meeting”

Most meetings can turn out to be an extremely expensive waste of time. A recent survey showed that most corporate executives spend an average of 4 hours per day in meetings. Another survey returned a 47 percent vote that their prime time waster at work are meetings.

Heading for one today? Please ensure you make it very effective by keeping it timely, concise and focused. Have a highly productive week ahead

Talent and creativity is not scarce. It is everywhere. However, it is the responsibility of leaders to identify it within the team and organization and unleash same, without feeling threatened.

Adversity is the state in which man most easily becomes acquainted with himself”

It’s time to get to the peak. Water at 99 degrees is just hot, but at 100 degrees, water boils! If you let out the steam at 99 degrees, you will never enjoy the benefits and use of boiling water. Go that 1 more degree. Go that extra mile to peak performance.

Leadership comes with service.

Leaders must constantly look out for opportunities to give back to community to make a difference today and in the future. RSW 3.0 was such rare opportunity where about 350 professionals from different walks of life, volunteered 13 weekends of their time to prepare about 5000 final year students of the different tertiary institutions in Lagos, for the world of work. Thank you Gov. Ambode and SA Education of Lagos State for providing the platform.

The experience was terrific! You could practically see the transformation in the lives of the beneficial scholars. Truly ready and prepared to take on the world. Got me thinking – if we can all reach out with a little heart of service and sacrifice, we can change the narrative of the poor state of education in the country.

To all co-volunteers, was a pleasure coming with you in this journey, and to our super RSW graduates, the world of work and entrepreneurship is all laid out before you to explore. Take it on!!!

As we get on our career paths and journey, one of the rare opportunities that comes along is an Executive or Business School education. The learning curve at this rung of the pyramid comes with a load of responsibility. Business School education is not only about the awards conferred, but the clarion call to step out and change the narrative to make business, community, society and nationhood much effective than you met it. It is getting beyond the ordinary. Thank you LBS for providing a world-class standard of education. Thank you Peter Amangbo for the charge and code of business conduct. We pledge to make a difference. So help me God!

We have all heard the term failure is an orphan, among other similar statements. No one wants to be associated with failure. We treat failure with a very long pole, with disdain. I also do. We are all dead right. However, I just got reminded that failure is actually good and should be embraced.

So, go out and strike more in 2019. Don’t be afraid to fail, only fail forward!

Have you imagined what the workplace and market place will be if there are no rivalries or competition? If there is no striving for mastery or pushing the boundaries to change and improve outcomes and results? All will be very drab and boring! Yet, imagine again what chaos we will have if there are no collaborations within teams, departments, firms and even nations to work on a common agenda? Catastrophes. As you launch out this week, look out for opportunities for collaboration. It may very well take you just farther than going solo.

Business is a competitive game

Business is a competitive game. Sometimes it feels like war. Really that is what it is. Like the African gazelle, it must daily outrun the lion or end up on the dinner table. Conversely, the lion must be strategic and nimble enough to match the dexterity of the gazelle or starve. In the midst of this stiff competition, you must differentiate, position and look out for opportunities for collaboration.
