CODE ZONE 2023 is here again and its time to impact. For those who know it’s an amazing opportunity for Teenagers and Pre-Teens to learn coding i.e. something new this long holiday, previous editions have been amazing.. There is no doubt that programming (of which coding is a part of) is fast becoming an essential skill. This year the intent is to strive to enlighten the Teens & encourage them to develop their project in line with  UN Sustainable Development Goals

CODE ZONE has a roll call of teenagers in the last four years who started coding from our program and have consistently progressed to becoming better so as to become programming experts among such is Temidayo, Christopher, Darasimi  and many more who are having their time to impact. Without any iota of doubt  in the very near future our participants will make giant strides in technology, just like some  famous programmers who started at a very early age.

CODE ZONE FOR TEENS 2020

Code Zone for Teens 2020 is a Success, Thank you to all participants!

The second edition of Code Zone for Teens which held on September 1 – 30, 2020 has successfully been concluded. The amazing thing about this edition is that it is virtual.

Before it was organized, several considerations were put into consideration;  Age range (11- 17) to assess the concentration on virtual training, uninterrupted, and most probably unsupervised access to the internet, 3 hours of daily classes – VIRTUAL, etc. It just felt like a recipe for what cannot work. However, the team decided that if it is for ONE reason that the session is worth it, then we must hold it.

This year we had 7 participants and they further gave us a reason to continue the classes. Almost all the participants did not know jack about programming as when they joined and amazingly as on the last day when they had to present even their parents were in awe. Their areas of interest which determined the website they developed were e-commerce, public health, games & music.

What this edition has re-enacted for us;

–          Do not underestimate the tenacity of children especially when they are interested. These Children were by their computers at 8 am daily for classes, some even had to do 7 am for specific reasons

–          Collateral Learning: while they set out to learn a programming language, they also became ZOOM meeting experts, Internet strength experts (they had to try several networks to stay connected), Presentation skills: they had to present their project to a large audience so they had to compose their thoughts.

–          Value can be spotted: Though many parents/guardians do not completely understand what the kids have been taught,  they are excited that the time was not wasted. Even if it’s for the discipline of waking up early, trying to complete a task, positive use of the internet. They are glad they got value.

Thanks to all that participated and to parents that allowed us to add value to their children. We look forward to the 2021 edition we know it will be Bigger & Better. We are confident that these kids will play on the world stage someday really soon.

Expert Teenage Programmers set to take over the tech world

Teenage Programmers are fast becoming a norm, as technology is changing, employment models are becoming stale; Old status symbols like job titles, company cars and other perks aren’t attractive anymore. Instead, many workers are longing for freedom; happiness and purpose. With the progress in artificial intelligence, current types of jobs are declining which is creating new opportunities in technological sector particularly for developers and programmers etc.Programming has gone beyond being a hobby to a critical career skill

“When a country has the skill and self-confidence to take action against its biggest problems, it makes outsiders eager to be part of it “Bill Gates”. Youths i.e. Programmers are at the peak of contributing to the technological sector of the country thereby attracting more investors and problems are solved not only in the homeland but also worldwide

We have youths that are set to take over the technological sector in the country and Worldwide and also youths that have taken over with the likes of Nyemahame Allwell Worgu ,a 12 year old Nigerian Boy who is a certified Java programmer had an equal record set with another 12 years old Pakistani girl in mastering sun’s Java program, also he is part of the six Nigerians to represent the country at the upcoming computer Olympiad holding in Romania .

       He also bared in mind urging youths to take chances addressing; I want to help and encourage people about things like this, because if they know about them, Nigeria will develop .Look at America, look at Britain, what is helping them today, is it not computers? Look at Singapore, this was a poor country, but just because of computers, they are growing in the world. Nigeria can get to such level if we try; there is no big deal about that.

However, platforms have been established to ensure that youths are taught programming languages such as PYTHON,JAVA,CSS,HTML etc, in order to contribute to the development of the country and Worldwide. Code Zone for Teens is one of the platforms created for learning programming languages, youth are brought together once again to learn ,have fun, be creative and majorly solve problems. As earlier explained here the concept of Code Zone is remarkable.

Code Zone for Teens program was initiated by the Director of Emerald Zone, Mrs.Akinloye ,a 3-week intensive program for youths to learn programming  languages to develop websites, software applications and many more. Recently, the first batch(Batch A) of the program ended successfully on 17th of August,2019 , presentations were held where parents and friends of teenagers got to see the end of the successful project completed by the students. The projects were developed based on their area of interest such as ;News, Music, Games, Event planning, Ebooks. The website names concluded by the students include;
